Larry Brinkin: DA Evaluating Evidence Following Kiddie Porn Arrest
Larry BrinkinThe San Francisco District Attorney has yet to file charges against 66-year-old Larry Brinkin, who was arrested Friday on suspicion of possessing child pornography, saying they need more time to comb through evidence police gave them.
“We are waiting for computer forensic evidence to be analyzed in order to make a proper charging decision,” said Stephanie Ong Stillman, spokeswoman for the DA. “Because these types of cases are complex, we need more time to thoroughly evaluate the evidence.”
Stillman could not say how long it might be before the DA makes a decision on whether to charge the veteran gay activist with a crime, explaining that investigators will take as long as they need to.

Investigators told SF Weekly that the DA has requested more forensic examination of the computers and hard drives police confiscated from Brinkin’s home.
SF Weekly broke the news on Monday that Brinkin, a community icon who
led the fight for the city to recognize same-sex partnerships, was
arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail over the weekend. He spent the night in jail before posting $70,000 bail, according to police.
Brinkin retired from the Human Rights Commission in 2010 where he was paid a $135,000 salary. He has been a
well-respected member of the gay and immigrant communities. The Board of Supervisors even
declared the first week of February as “Larry Brinkin Week.”
That’s why the news of Brinkin’s arrest shocked the San Francisco community, especially those who have known Brinkin and worked closely with him for decades. His allies and friends have come to his defense, responding to the arrest with disbelief. Some have gone as far as to leave comments on our blog suggesting Brinkin’s e-mail was hacked.
SF Weekly obtained the search warrant, which detailed disturbing e-mails between an AOL user in Los Angeles and firstname.lastname@example.org. Police say they linked the AOL e-mail to Brinkin’s IP address; they also say he is
owner of the account and paid for AOL service with his credit card, according to the search warrant.
The warrant claims these e-mails contained images of children as young
as perhaps a year old being sodomized by and performing oral sex on
adult men. Zack3737@aol.com — who the police allege is Brinkin —
provided graphic commentary on the photos of interracial adult-child sex.
