Newton Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

NEWTON, N.C. — On October 22nd, 2012, the Newton Police Department was notified of a possible Child Pornography incident that was discovered by a local business owner. 

A report was filed and an investigation was initiated by the criminal investigations division of the Newton Police Department in conjunction with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI).  The allegations involve the suspect, Chris Michael Proctor, 42 of Maiden and his possession of child pornography. 

As a result of the initial investigation, Chris Michael Proctor was arrested on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 without incident. Proctor was charged with (6) counts of Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.  Proctor was placed in the Catawba County Detention Center with a $75,000 secured bond.  Proctor had a first appearance Wednesday, October 24th, 2012. 

Both the Newton Police Department and the NC SBI are members of the North Carolina Internet Crimes against Children (NC ICAC) Task Force. The NC ICAC includes 135 law enforcement agencies across the state. North Carolina’s ICAC is part of a nationwide network of law enforcement and prosecutors dedicated to protecting children from online dangers. The national ICAC includes sixty one coordinated task forces throughout the United States.
