Cellphone Amber Alert wake you up? Here’s how to opt out

On Monday, the FDLE sent an Amber Alert at 1:45 a.m. for a missing 2-year-old girl thought to have been kidnapped in rural Immokalee, southeast of Fort Myers.

The ear-piercing tone, which includes a unique vibration, scared people because they didn’t know what it was, said Gretl Plessinger, an FDLE spokeswoman.

To opt out, some owners can go to their phone’s settings and turn off the alert. Others must contact their service provider.

The missing child, by the way, was found safe in a field after a few hours.

Sunday was the anniversary of the Amber Alert, named after a 9-year-old Texas girl kidnapped and killed in 1996.
