LEWISBURG — A man charged with child endangerment for allegedly scalding his girlfriend’s young daughter and two alleged burglars apprehended in December after police trailed their footprints in the snow waived their rights to preliminary hearings Thursday in Union County.

They face arraignment May 6 in county court.

The one defendant is Stephen A. Childress, 24, of Lewisburg, who is charged with a felony count of child endangerment as well as a misdemeanor count of endangerment and two misdemeanor counts of simple assault.

He is alleged to have burned his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter while giving her a bath in April. The child was burned badly enough to be flown by helicopter from Evangelical Community Hospital to the Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Regional Burn Center for treatment of second- and third-degree burns to her neck, back, arm and shoulder.

The child also suffered bruises, scratches and a bite on one foot, possibly from previous incidents, according to court documents. Childress is free on his own recognizance. He’s been ordered to stay away from the mother and the child.

The other two cases are against Damon Marciniak, 18, of Lewisburg, and Damon Snead, 20, of Bloomsburg. Each man faces 30 charges, accused of break-ins at several Lewisburg homes the day after Christmas.

Bail for both men — $50,000 for Marciniak and $40,000 for Snead — was changed from monetary to unsecured, allowing them to go free until their court appearance in May.
