On Thursday May 2, 2013, Superior Court Judge Darryl Ferguson sentenced 63-year-old Alton Eugene Dorrough of Exeter, to the aggravated term of 25 years state prison for two separate counts of forcible lewd acts on a child under 14 and single count of lewd act on a child under 14 and contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense.

Dorrough pled to three of the counts on March 4, 2013 and an additional count on May 2nd.

On May 7, 2012, detectives from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Exeter Police Department where they contacted the minor victim. The victim informed detectives that the defendant molested her between 2007 and 2012. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department was called to investigate the case as the defendant was the acting Exeter Police Department Chaplain at the time of the investigation. The defendant later admitted to detectives that he had in fact molested the victim numerous times.

Three of the counts are violent felonies under California’s Three Strikes Law. Dorrough will not be eligible for parole until he serves eighty-five percent of his prison term and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Judge Ferguson left future restitution to the victim and the Government Victim’s Compensation Claims Board to remain open.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Matthew Darby and investigated by Detectives Kathy Garcia and Ronna Brewer of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.
