Conway, SC — Investigators in Horry County, SC said a man wanted in their area was killed in Huntsville, Alabama in an officer-involved shooting, last Friday.

Officers told CBS Affiliate WBTW that 57 year-old Brent Egan Dotson was the person killed. Dotson was wanted for sentencing in a child rape case, according to Horry Co. detectives.

Dotson failed to show up for his trial in December, but the judge allowed the trial to moved forward without him. A jury convicted him of raping a 6 year-old.

Until Friday, Dotson’s whereabouts were unknown. However, Alabama police said they got a 911 call Friday morning about a suspicious person at Mountain View Mobile Home Park on Slaughter Road in Huntsville.

While officers were investigating the call gunfire was exchanged. The Huntsville police officer who fired his weapon remains on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Police said Dotson had a weapon and fired it, but they’re still trying to determine who fired first.
