Charter School Teacher Faces Child Abuse Charges

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A charter school teacher is facing child abuse charges after he pushed the head of a 6-year-old girl into a wall.

Chandler police arrested Chen Qikai, 27, at Basis Charter School on Tuesday.

According to police, Chen lives with the 6-year-old victim and her father in Chandler.

Officers said he pushed the girl’s head into a wall at home — because she woke-him up from a nap.

Chen admitted he was too rough, police said, but that he gave the girl first aid to stop the bleeding.

Officers received a call from Child Protective Services after the girl showed up at school on April 12 with significant bruising to the left side of her face.

She told school staff she was not supposed to tell when she was asked about the injury, police said.
