When Children Are Victims of Crime

It is a stunning reminder that when we bring children into the world, we then have an obligation to provide them with the safety and security they deserve.

Naturally, somewhere along life's path, a child might become the victim of the school bully, sport a black eye from playground scuffles, or be traumatized by the cruel words of peers just because they are different from the “in” crowd.  At those times, we hug them close, put an ice pack on the bruised eye, teach them to avoid revenge, and soothe their crushed emotions.

But what do we do when a child becomes a victim of malicious crime? Crimes perpetrated against a child through battering, maltreatment, neglect, and even deadly school shootings—or by a sexual predator, an abductor, a pornography trafficker, and, yes, even by a murderer.  Those are serious crimes that demand a serious response by society.

Due to heightened attention to the victimization of children under the age of eighteen, the need for reliable information has never been greater. Having an accurate understanding of such ill treatment is the first step toward helping these kids and their families.

We, at CARING FOR OUR CHILDREN FOUNDATION, realize that protecting our innocent children should be the first priority of every caring adult. Sadly, there are those who have no regard for a child’s well being.

Our foundation was formed to benefit an under-served, yet deserving population of youth and young children who are at risk: victims of crime, abduction or crisis— and to help the lesser known, under-funded charities aiding them.

We know that the best way anyone can help is to become informed, and, after that, to become pro-active in helping these child-victims to lead a full and restored life...
