Muldrow Man’s Child Rape Trial Set
SALLISAW — A Muldrow man accused of repeatedly raping a child
younger than 14 will go to trial the week of Feb. 27, Sequoyah
County District Judge Jeff Payton decided Monday.
Claud Gibbons, 47, faces three counts of first-degree rape of a
child younger than 14, one count of sodomy of a child younger than
16 and one count of first-degree rape by instrumentation.
Gibbons has been held in the Sequoyah County Detention Center in
lieu of a $125,000 bond since his extradition to Oklahoma from
Arizona, where he fled when investigators asked him to come in for
an interview on Feb. 15, 2011, the date of the last alleged
Williams, Ariz., authorities arrested Gibbons on Feb. 17, and
held him until he was extradited. Gibbons pleaded not guilty to the
charges on March 10.
The teen testified at Gibbons’ preliminary hearing in July that
the attacks began when the child was in the third grade.
