Police Blotter: Missing Child Found, but Neighbor Injured During Search

A search for a missing 3-year-old girl last week had a happy ending for the youngster and her family, but but a less happy one for a neighbor who joined the police search, according to PPD Detective George Phifer.

Phifer said the child’s mother called police at 8:32 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, to report that she couldn’t find her young daughter. The child was last seen in her bedroom before the mother took a shower, Phifer said.

Police officers searched the home, in the 700 block of Blair Avenue, and then moved on to search at the East Bay Municipal Untility District’s Reservoir  No. 2 behind the home, Phifer said.

A neighbor who joined the search injured his ankle when he tried to climb a fence surrounding the reservoir, Phifer said.

The child was finally located inside the family home, in a room that police had searched previously. It’s possible the girl was moving from room to room as family members and police hunted for her, Phifer said.
