MOUNT AIRY A man and woman have been charged in connection with the physical abuse of a 1-year-old child, authorities said.

Katie Danielle Cribb, 24, of Winston-Salem, and her boyfriend, Kenneth Dewayne Crowell II, 20, of Mount Airy were charged with intentional child abuse causing serious physical injury and child neglect causing serious physical injury, Mount Airy police told FOX8/WGHP, the newsgathering partner of the Winston-Salem Journal.

Cribb is the mother of the child, but Crowell isn’t the father, said Capt. Alan Freeman of the Mount Airy Police Department. He declined to identify the child.

Officers went to Northern Hospital of Surry County Nov. 2 after they received a report of possible child abuse, the television station reported. Police say hospital staff “observed questionable injuries” on the child.

The child was released from the hospital after receiving treatment, police said.

Cribb and Crowell were being held Thursday in the Surry County Jail in Dobson. Cribb’s bond was $15,000, and Crowell’s bond was $5,000.

No further details were available.
